1816 Bakery

1816 is a Ballarat Bakery established in 2019, by Head Baker Josh Chapman, with owners of the Forge Pizzeria, Tim and Chris Matthews. Josh would travel to Trentham to get good quality sourdough bread. He realised there was a gap in Ballarat for a bricks-and-mortar sourdough bakery. In 2019, the first loaves came out of the oven.

Everything at 1816 is done by hand. The only machinery used in the sourdough process is an electric mixer, electric scales, and the oven. All other processes are done with the human hand. Being a local supplier themselves, Josh places an emphasis on using local goods and ingredients in his products.

Their range of breads includes sourdough, rye, spelt, grain, pumpkin, olive & basil, coffee & date as well as a selection of delicious pastries including cinnamon scrolls, croissants, danishes and donuts.

Bread from 1816 Bakery is delivered to Blake Family Grocers in Daylesford every Monday to Friday morning and their wonderful range of pastries are delivered fresh every Sunday – Friday.
